How we began

Self defence can feel scary and overwhelming. You’re walking into a class full of strangers about to tackle some pretty heavy topics. Sometimes you can even leave feeling more confused and afraid than before you entered. As a result, women may be discouraged from seeking out and taking classes in self defence. This is why Sarah created the Defence Project. This class offers women the opportunity to learn important life skills in a supportive, safe, and friendly environment.

Sarah is a qualified Group Fitness Instructor, Boxing Trainer and 2nd Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo. Her training in Martial Arts over the past 7 years is what led to her interest for women’s self defence.

What you will learn

Bring a friend and come to our FREE one hour Self Defence class! This class is designed for the absolute beginner. You do not need any prior martial arts or fitness training before attending.

  • Avoiding a dangerous situation is the best self defence there is! Remember it’s always better to avoid a fight than to win a fight!

We will give you some practical tools on how to implement small avoidance strategies into your every day life.

  • If you find yourself in a dangerous situation that you cant safely get away from, the next best thing is learning how to de-escalate that situation.

Remember you only want to fight if you absolutely have to! We will teach you verbal cues and body language you can use to de-escalate a potential attacker.

  • In this class you will learn four basic self defence techniques. How to escape from a wrist grab, throat grab, bear hug and what to do if someone knocks you to the ground.
